NOVEMBER 6, 2017 - To coincide with the launch of the Canadian Music Cooperative, the rock trio Communism have re-released their debut album "GET DOWN GET TOGETHER" as the first official release of the new Cooperative record label. The re-issue includes two new bonus tracks, the single "Heartfarmer" and the previously unreleased "Weakness Is Strength". Each CD is uniquely hand-painted and numbered.
Communism is a shockingly energetic rock trio with songs that dare to combine high ideals and high kicks, a wake-up call to listeners and songwriters, that they can have real meaning in their songs, and get power from that, going beyond the normal default songs of love, loss of love, and often nothing at all. The music makes you dance, the words awaken your inner activist. One of Everyone, Take Care of Each Other, Forgiveness, Heartfarmer... the songs fill you with hope, connection, and harmony - all while rocking your world.
Communism was founded in 2014 by veteran producer and performer Don Kerr. After playing and singing for over 25 years with Ron Sexsmith, Rheostatics, and on occasion with Bahamas, Neko Case, Dan Mangan, and Feist's Hydra, as well as producing hundreds of artists, Don Kerr is now writing and singing his own songs under the name Communism. Kurt Swinghammer plays electric guitar, Kevin Lacroix plays bass. Three seasoned musicians and best friends who thrive on the thrill of playing live music, exchanging mutual invigoration with the audience.
